Beer and Food at The Angel
On Tuesday 8th September, Paul Swain at The Angel in Burford hosted a hugely successful evening with a delicious meal matched with Hooky beers. The rare occasion of a beautiful bright evening was taken advantage of with the Homemade Canapes and Hooky Gold served in the courtyard garden. Next came a Confit of Guinea Fowl with Hooky Bitter, this was served on a bed of pulses and the bitterness of the beer really brought out the flavour of the meat.
This was followed by Salmon Tagine and Haymaker, we felt this was an interesting match as neither the beer nor the food was improved by the other. The main course was a Beef in Ale Pie with Turned Root Vegetables and matched with Old Hooky. This was a classic matching and we were not disappointed, the beer really brought out the sweetness in the meat.
We all know how well Double Stout goes with Chocolate but Paul and team really went for it, serving up Chocolate Brownie, Chocolate Brulee and Chocolate Ice Cream! The general feeling was that this was the best pairing and a real treat of a dessert! To finish off the night (if anyone could fit anymore in!) was a Blue Cheese Fondue with Crudites. This was matched with Twelve Days and we were just sorry not to do it justice!
We have the following Beer and Food evenings planned, if you are interested in seeing how such an evening works, call the pub direct to book your spaces!
